I’m the founder of Geeky Medics and a qualified GP. I work across medicine, education, video production and technology, creating resources that help healthcare learners develop their skills.
A little of what I doI founded Geeky Medics in 2010 while studying medicine at Newcastle University. It now supports millions of healthcare learners worldwide, with clinical skills resources used by medical students and universities across the UK and internationally.
Our educational content has generated more than half a billion views. Our YouTube channel, home to our clinical skills videos, now has 1.5 million subscribers.
My current focus is SimChat, an AI-powered simulation platform for universities and healthcare organisations. It enables realistic, repeatable communication skills training at scale, with learners able to practise conversations with AI-powered virtual patient avatars.
I’m Dr Lewis Potter, founder of Geeky Medics and a qualified GP. I graduated from Newcastle University with an MBBS in 2012, two years after starting Geeky Medics as a medical student.
I’m passionate about shooting and editing video. Creating Geeky Medics’ clinical skills videos has been a central part of building the platform and brings together my interests in medicine, education and filmmaking.
I’ve always enjoyed finding useful things to do with technology. At medical school, I put an offline copy of Wikipedia on an iPod touch so I could look up medical conditions without Wi-Fi. I shared that story in an interview about starting Geeky Medics.
In 2023, I received the British Empire Medal for services to higher education and medicine.
Outside of work, I’m drawn to the industrial design of technology: the way form, materials and small details can make an everyday object a pleasure to use.
